Downtown Tempe Farmers Market
Mill Avenue Farmers Market at Orchidhouse
While Downtown Tempe has had a rough go of it over the last year, that trend seems to be shifting. Over the last few months, numerous announcements about new businesses in Downtown Tempe (including Madcap, Tempe Farmers Market, Market on Mill, multiple restaurants including Sucker Punch, Counter Culture, Five Guys, etc.) make it appear better and better to be a Downtown Tempe resident! This is especially true if you happen to live at the Lofts at Orchidhouse on 6th Street and Mill Avenue. That’s because, beginning this Sunday (October 25th, 2009) and continuing through May, the “Mill Avenue Farmers Market” sprouts up with fresh produce, breads, oils, flowers, and other locally made products. Located literally outside the front door of the Orchidhouse in the park known as “6th Street Park”, the Farmers Market will provide yet another fantastic reason to walk, bike, or better yet, “rail” to Mill Avenue.
An idea that is two years in the making, the Mill Avenue Farmers Market is the inspiration of James Neal. An Orchidhouse resident himself, James has a passion for Downtown Tempe and believes it’s best years are yet to come. “The infrastructure already exists in Downtown Tempe for an amazing neighborhood friendly environment... with the light rail, the lake, Mill Ave... I just thought a Farmers Market would make a perfect fit!” James is a “perfect fit” for the Farmers Market as well. With a background in farming and a part owner in the popular, downtown mexican cantina “Chronic Tacos”, James is an entrepreneur who is willing to put his money where his ideas are! “I believe we are ready to see Mill Avenue transform once again and I’d like to see the Mill Avenue Farmers Market be one of the driving forces behind that transformation.” We couldn’t agree with him more!
Come enjoy the soft opening of the new open air market this Sunday from 9am till 2pm and sample wares from up to 20 different vendors. The official grand opening event will be held on November 15th, 2009 with up to 40 vendors!
