Tempe Considers Harkins Theater Adaptation

 

According to recent rumblings in the downtown, the Downtown Tempe Community (DTC) is considering an aggressive plan to re-use the vacant building that once was home to the Harkins Centerpoint Cinemas.  The plan, which is still a work in progress, would transform each of the individual theaters into various venues of entertainment.  For example, some of the entertainment ideas suggested include; Live Comedy Improv, Live Theater, Independent Films, Live Music, Art Shows and the artistic list goes on.  Essentially, the space would be used by artists of all types as an “affordable” way of delivering their art to the public.  The Tempe entertainment and art complex would include the use of the theater concessions and separate admission fees depending upon which venue one might be attending.  Naturally, the theaters would require some remodeling in order to facilitate the new events.  Additions would include theatrical stages, electrical additions, lighting, and the like.  Developing...
