Downtown Tempe Student Housing

Luxury Student Living

The Vue on Forest Luxury Student Living

While most condominium development may have slowed down to a trickle, student housing construction is still in high gear.  Case in point, the rendering pictured above is for a new, luxury student housing development located at 7th and Forest in Downtown Tempe, just a couple of blocks off of Mill Avenue.  While “The Vue on Forest” is not the official name for the development, it might be a good working title since it is a concept originated by the same folks who developed the “Vue on Apache”.

We were fortunate enough to attend a meeting on this forthcoming project and here are some details:

Name: Unknown (We will use the Vue on Forest)

Location: 7th Street & Forest Avenue, Downtown Tempe

Size: 20 Story, 168 units

Unit Types: 1 thru 5 bedroom units

Parking: 192 spaces in the above grade 4 story garage

Status: Construction start in 2010, completion in 2011

Amenities: Roof top pool with sandy beach entrance, fitness center, tanning beds, first floor retail, and many more luxury features.

Rental Rates: Estimated at $700/Bed plus $85/Parking

The urban style development boasts many of the requisite modern features that most everyone adores.  For starters, it has a fantastic location right next to ASU, the Mill Avenue District and within walking distance to the Metro light rail.  It also brags modern detailing like floor to ceiling glass, wood flooring, granite countertops, retail on the first floor, and of course, a roof-top pool and amenity area.  Last, the developer is striving for LEED Certification, but is unsure if they will be able to reach that goal.  One of the “green” features covers the parking garage. The 4 story, above grade parking structure is covered by a wire mesh which will be watered to promote vine growth.  This will provide a natural disguise for the parking garage as well as green shade for the parked vehicles.

While the architecture may seem a bit outside the typical Downtown Tempe red brick, we love the modern look and think there is plenty of room for buildings with modern flair.  The juxtaposition of architectural styles helps to create an architecturally fascinating downtown.  Take a look around San Francisco, Chicago, or New York for some great examples!
