Construction has begun on the new, independently owned and operated, sushi bar at the corner of 7th Street and Mill Avenue.  Filling the prime Downtown Tempe corner, previously housing Pizzeria Uno, the new sushi joint will be called “Kanpai” Sushi & Bar.  For those of you who don’t already know, (we certainly didn’t) Kampai (乾杯) means “cheers” in Japanese.  So, we aren't totally clear on what the meaning of "Kanpai" (with an "n") might mean, but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough! While we know many Downtown Tempe residents are already big fans of RA Sushi, we believe there should be more than one choice for all you sushi aficionados.

The current restaurant space is still an empty shell, but according to Kanpai, a July 2010 grand opening is anticipated.  Stay tuned for updates as they become available.  Kanpai!
