The Year Tempe Restaurants Come of Age
As discussed previously, there are encouraging economic signs to be found all over the Tempe landscape. If you didn’t already read it, check out our previous article on the flood of good news for the area HERE.
In addition, 2014 is shaping up to be the year that Downtown Tempe eateries come of age. Downtown Tempe has received significant news for all those “Foodies” in town. First, as pictured above, it was announced that The Fox Restaurant Group would be opening “Culinary Dropout at the Farmers Art District”. Rumor has it that this will be built in connection with Fox’s “The Yard” concept, but details are still a bit hazy. Located in the architectural interesting steel structure along Farmer and 1st Street, this is the first entry into the Downtown Tempe market for the popular Fox Restaurant Group. Might there be more to come for this prolific restauranteur?
Following up that news was the announcement that the old ASU Annex on College Avenue would be renovated. Anchoring the Northern section of the new brick structure is Postino. The downright famous wine cafe already boasts three Valley locations. The most urban environment in town had to wait to be the fourth. But, this has been how the local restaurant folks have treated Downtown Tempe. Rumor has it that the Southern part of the Annex will be a Snooze A.M. Eatery, but this has not yet been announced.
Seemingly begrudgingly, these Valley restauranteurs are finally opening shop in Downtown Tempe. We say, “it’s about time!” For far too long Downtown Tempe has been thought of as nothing more than college beer bars and pizza joints. It’s nice to see that these folks are finally realizing what those who live in Downtown Tempe and along Tempe Town Lake have known for a very long time... we like to eat good food... and we want to walk (not drive 20 minutes) to enjoy it! So, welcome to Downtown Tempe boys! Now hurry up and serve us up some tasty treats!
