Tempe Weekend Travel Tips
Tempe Weekend Travel Tips
Urban Dwellers Still Need a Little Sojourn
Every now and again, even the most content city resident needs a break. Sometimes, we just need a change of pace, a break from the norm, or a different point of view. There’s something about a little travel that helps to renew our minds, and upon returning home, gives us a fresh start.
Living in metropolitan Arizona, we are truly blessed to have easy and quick access to some amazing getaways. These destinations run the gamut from quant winter wonderlands to the North, to warm summer beaches to the South. Unfortunately, living “the good life” in Downtown Tempe has made us fairly choosy with regards to the types of places we’ll rest our heads at night. Lucky for us, we’ve found a few that are worth talking about, so we thought we’d share some of these spots with our friends and clients-- just in case anyone was looking for their own change of pace.
Only an hour and a half drive to the Northwest of Tempe is, Prescott, Arizona-- a quant, historic getaway. Providing the homesick midwesterner with access to all four seasons, the area has been remarked to be “the most Midwestern-appearing city in the Southwest”. Prescott is an easy weekend vacation spot for those looking for a snowy break in the Winter or much needed relief from the heat in the Summer. While there are always the usual suspects of B & B’s and hotels a traveler may stay at, we’ve found an affordable, eclectic, and very “kitschy” resting place that everyone must try when they make their way up to this little town. The creative “work in progress” of former downtown Tempe residents and owners Joe Livingston and Brian Spear, The Motor Lodge couldn’t be in better hands. We would tell you all about these two, but we thought we’d let the rave comments on Trip-Adviser do the job. Suffice it to say, Joe and Brian (along with their friendly Doberman “Chopper”) truly make this little motel special. Consisting of only twelve, very kitschy cottages, “The Motor Lodge” is located very near the historic old town of Prescott. But, once you’ve paid a visit, it’ll be located very near to your heart too.

Next up, South of the border:
Anyone who has spent any amount of time with us will probably already know about our next travel tip. That’s because we like it so much, we talk about it all the time! Traveling only three and one half hours South across the Mexico border is Puerto Peñasco (aka Rocky Point). This warm weather play ground on the Sea of Cortez is a refreshing retreat for the dried out Arizona resident in need of a little moisture. One of the factors making this such a desirable vacation spot is having access to some truly modern style condominiums. Enter HipGetaway.com. This website offers 1, 2, 3, and 4 bedroom modern style escapes located in a master planned community known as the Las Palomas Seaside Golf Resort. (It’s a breeze for us to vouch for the quality of these condos since we are also partners in these particular escapes.) The community boasts an 18-hole championship golf course, two gourmet restaurants, pools and jacuzzis, lazy rivers and a swim up pool bistro and bar. It’s easy to forget about all the stress of every day life back at home while you are reclining on your patio overlooking the Sea. HipGetaway’s slogan says it all: “Come... Getaway... Relax!”
